Southern Region Evening Meeting

Southern Region
Date07 September 2010
Time19:30
VenueSS Shieldhall, Berth 29, Gate 4, Eastern Docks

Note change of date - now TUESDAY 7th September not the 8th as previously advertised

Seagrass has international protection and it is abundant in the Solent. Ken has been working on the Calshot seagrass bed for 3 years and using this data he advised the East Cowes development on likely seagrass impacts which makes an entertaining story. The presentation is more focussed on people's misconceptions than the marine biology.

He will discuss the impact of long-term trends in sea level on seagrass with a Southampton Water case study (see: Haigh, I.D., Nicholls, R.J., Wells, N.C., 2009 Mean sea-level trends around the English Channel over the 20th century and their wider context. Continental Shelf Research, 29 (17), 2083-2098.)

All members and visitors welcome

Note: SS Shieldhall has moved to a new permanent location at Berth 29 in Southampton's Eastern Docks, accessed via Dock Gate 4. See http://www.abport.co.uk/files/southampton%202008.pdf for the location of SS Shieldhall.
