The day will follow the customary MMF format of a series of short talks from representatives of research institutions and commercial organisations on relevant topics ranging from scientific research to instrumentation and survey projects. These will be interspersed with refreshment breaks and the chance to network and share ideas with delegates from the various professions involved in quantifying and visualising the marine environment. There will also an opportunity to visit BP's facilities, including the drilling simulator and high definition distance learning facilities.

MMF59 will be preceded by another half-day event hosted by the Society in Sunbury on Thursday 6th July. HydSoc@TheMagpie: Then & Now is an afternoon and early evening networking event which will explore how contemporary cutting-edge hydrography has been influenced by the pioneers and innovators of the last 50 years. Forty-five years since the Society was founded, this event will take place at The Magpie which hosted over 80 meetings of the Society's first Region and is now part of the organisation's folklore. This event will be free of charge for members and there will a charge of £15 + VAT for non-members - including MMF59 participants. Prior booking is essential.
