Surveying the Thames: Marine Infrastructure Maintenance and Development Support
by Port of London Authority, Hydrographic Service Team

The PLA have been surveying the River Thames for over 100 years using a multitude of technologies and craft. Technologies have  developed to a degree that high resolution surveys provide valuable support in the design, monitoring and construction phases of existing or new marine assets.

This presentation  will look at the uses of integrated sensors including MBES, LiDAR and photographic surveys acquired, processed and reported to facilitate marine asset, integrity monitoring, design and construction. A number of case studies will be presented covering bathymetry and  asset inspection. Additionally, some new developments undertaken with commercial and academic partners will be presented covering geophysical, geotechnical survey provision for UXO, piling and dredge risk mitigation purposes as well as some unique delivery/review methods that have been employed in supporting both the PLA and their stakeholders.
