This presentation will share some examples of wireless EM power & data connection in the millimetre range that is enabling communication and operation from remote shore-based locations.

BlueComm Free Space Optical Communications and Applications
by Sonardyne

For years, wireless subsea telemetry has been achieved through acoustic communications. While this is good for long range communications, it is limited to speeds which make the old dial-up connections look fast. With recent improvements in silicon technology, high power LED technology and advanced optical sensors, it is possible to bring wireless broadband speeds into the subsea world with the use of Free Space Optical Modems. In this presentation we will look at how Sonardyne's BlueComm product range has revolutionised high bandwidth wireless subsea communications and discuss applications for the technology.

All members and and non-members welcome.

A selection of cold food and drinks will be available from 18:30 and presentations will start at 19:00 prompt.

Prior registration is required for this event

There is a charge of £10 for admission payable online during registration to cover catering (please ask at the door if you require a receipt). Admission is free for Students.
