About the Role
 
We are looking for an experienced Hydrographic Surveyor (Level 1 preferred but not essential) to join our survey team. As a Surveyor you will be responsible for contributing to the safe navigation of all the commercial vessels that transit the 90kms of channels, river reaches and berths in and out of the Port.
 
Duties include the installation, calibration and maintenance of all hydrographic and metocean equipment, on the Port’s dedicated survey vessels, in addition to providing technical support to the Port’s dredging fleet as required. The team is also actively involved in supporting external clients, on a range of challenging projects, mainly along the Queensland coast.

About You

Are you looking for your next challenge? Are you an innovative and highly motivated team member who:
 
  • Holds a degree in surveying, or similar discipline, with solid experience working in a similar role.
  • Holds Level 1 SSSI certification (or is on the pathway to obtaining this) (desirable but not essential)
  • Has extensive knowledge using a variety of surveying software packages, including extensive experience specifically in QINSy, Qimera and POSPAC (Experience using Bentley Microstation is also desirable).
  • Is experienced using a range of hydrographic equipment, specifically Reson Multibeam Systems, Applanix POS MV’s and GNSS. Experience using terrestrial laser systems would be of benefit.
  • Is proficient at mobilising, installing, testing and calibrating hydrographic equipment.
  • Has extensive experience in processing and interpreting bathymetric datasets.
  • Has good IT knowledge, with the ability to interface equipment and problem solve in the field.
  • Experience in project management is also highly desirable.
  • Is an effective communicator with the ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally.
  • Has the ability to work autonomously, alongside a Skipper, taking initiative and ownership of projects, and as part of a small driven team.
  • Is comfortable working away from home as required.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and takes an active role in promoting, motivating and improving individual and collective quality, safety and environmental practices.
  • Is resilient with the ability to coordinate, prioritise and manage competing demands and meet deadlines.
