IIC Academy Launches its Hydrographic Surveying Program to the General Public

31 March 2021

Hydrography plays an important role in the economic and social development of nations. The proper mapping of the coastlines and bodies of water of a nation, guarantees the better management of natural resources, preservation of marine species and habitats, marine trade, defence and safety of navigation through national and international waters, amongst many other benefits.

IIC Academy’s S-5 Category B Hydrographic Surveying Program has been recognized by the FIG/IHO/ICA International Board on Standards of Competence for Hydrographic Surveyors and Nautical Cartographers (IBSC) and is designed to maximise the advantages of online delivery, especially taking into account the circumstances imposed on us by the current global situation with COVID-19.

The purpose of IIC Academy’s S-5 Category B program is to prepare candidates with the theoretical and practical competencies necessary to carry out the planning and implementation of hydrographic surveys effectively.

The program gradually guides the students into the topics, from basic to advanced degrees of difficulty, both in the theoretical and practical aspects. All the practical tasks are aimed at strengthening the theory of each topic and evolve from supervised sessions to autonomous work.

IIC Academy’s aims to offer the S-5 Category B program in a flexible manner, in tune with health and safety requirements of the world today.

IIC’s S-5 Category B Hydrographic Surveying Program is designed for surveyors with some experience in any phase of their career, or new candidates with some related education, who choose to seek professional-level training at the Category B level. The program’s remote learning delivery allows employees and employers the flexibility to customize the timing of the learning process, so that it best fits within their work schedules, potentially enhancing the training through practical synergies.

IIC Academy´s Hydrographic Surveying Program – Global delivery runs for a total 20 weeks, divided in three phases: 13 weeks of remote learning to cover all of the program’s theory, from the comfort of your home or office; this includes instructor-led Webinars and e-learning modules. The remote learning phase will be followed by 3 intensive weeks on site to cover the Practicals, at one of the three scheduled regions (America, Australasia and Europe); and 4 weeks to complete the Comprehensive Final Field Project.

An overall and very real benefit of the structure of this program is that it parallels how hydrographic surveying teams work in practice.

Those interested in enrolling in the program can contact hydrographicsurveyor@iicacademy.com to obtain all the details.
